This Hermès Honey Ostrich 40 cm Birkin appears in pristine condition from the 1997 collection. Hermès bags are considered the ultimate luxury item the world over. Hand stitched by skilled craftsmen, wait lists of a year or more are commonplace for the bovine versions. This particular Birkin is in Natural Sable Ostrich skin with gold hardware; a rare exotic that is extremely difficult to find.
Ostrich skin is unmistakable in appearance due to the raised bumps from the quill follicles of the ostrich. Considered one of the strongest commercial leathers, it ages well and may be wiped down after exposure to rain, if necessary. This luxurious skin requires a very specialized production process making it quite a bit more expensive than the bovine leathers.
The Sable Ostrich on this Birkin is a warm neutral honey color that pairs beautifully with most other colors. Perfectly highlighted with gold hardware. Double rolled handles are carried in hand or at the elbow. Natural Sable chevre (goat skin) lining with one side zippered pocket. Blind stamped A within a square. Made in France. Purchase includes padlock, keys, clochette and dust bag.
